It's finished - and it was worth the wait!
I love the finished "Pearly skirt" - named by Ottobre not me. It was exactly what I hoped it would be like - slinky and very special feeling, I actually feel like a grown up - and dressed up - in it. Perhaps even a touch of Mad Men about it.
So here it is:
Yes, I am stood in a lift. It's the only other place in our block of flats with a mirror so you can see the back - I thought you might be sick of seeing picture of me in my toilet. It took a bit of taking - my husband took the picture, trying to hide out of the mirror and I was trying to keep the door open as he was stood outside.
So the making of the skirt...
It was pretty straightforward - I don't really know why it took me so long. As usual I did a practice run using Swedish tracing paper. It was a good job I did as the sample I made up was far too big and I made alterations to the Swedish tracing paper pattern pieces and recut them. If I had just cut out the right size to start with it would have been fine.
The fabric was a doddle to cut and sew with - I had been nervous that the slinky nature of the fabric would catch and slip in the machine but it was fine.
There were a couple of new techniques for me in the construction. It was my first lining and I also stitched in some ribbon loops to hang the skirt (Ottobre is good at thinking of these practicalities - I don't think I've seen that in any other pattern). The lining was easy to put together just attach the piece to the zip in the outer shell. The loops were less of a success. I managed to stitch one of them between the outer an dthe liner and I couldn't be bothered unpicking it just for the loop. So I have one loop if I want to hang it very lop-sidedly.
So, I made a video of course...
